Many indigenous people call our continent "Turtle Island."  If you need to contact the earth for knowledge or healing, turtle can be your guide.  Once there was only water, and turtle made a great sacrifice to let everyone come and live on her back.   Turtle teaches us respect for the earth, and to treat her as a living being.
